Welcome to
Menlo Park Lodge
Freemasonry traces its roots to medieval stonemasons’ guilds in Europe. These guilds protected trade secrets, trained apprentices, and developed symbols and rituals tied to building and geometry. Over time, non-stonemasons (philosophers, scholars, nobles, etc.) were admitted, shifting the focus from literal stone-building to moral and philosophical self-improvement.

In 1717, four lodges in London formed the first Grand Lodge of England, marking the birth of modern Freemasonry. The fraternity spread rapidly across Europe and the American colonies, promoting Enlightenment ideals like reason, tolerance, charity, and liberty. Many notable figures such as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Mozart, and Voltaire were Masons.

Today, Freemasonry is a global fraternal organization with millions of members. While traditions and rituals remain, modern lodges often emphasize charitable work, ethical living, building friendships, and personal development. Menlo Park Masonic Lodge #651 continues as a voluntary society centered on symbolism, fraternity, moral reflection, charity, and growth in all areas of one's life.
